Who we are
TempusGuessr (tempusguessr.com) is run by Cauldron Games, based in Brazil, the controller of the data described on this page. Questions, requests and complaints about your data: gamestudiocoven@gmail.com.
Summary
The essentials, before the details:
- You can play without signing up and without giving us your name or email.
- Signing in with Google is optional, and you can delete your account yourself at any time.
- We don’t sell or rent your data.
- The site is free and paid for by Google ads, which use cookies.
When you play without an account
On your first visit, your browser creates a random identifier that contains neither your name nor your email. Linked to it, we keep on our server:
- your games: game, date, guesses, points and how long each game took;
- an automatic nickname, shown to people who open a challenge you sent;
- the challenges you created;
- usage events (game started, game finished, challenge created, challenge opened), which we only look at as totals, to improve the games.
What stays in your browser
Your browser’s local storage (localStorage) keeps the identifier, today’s games, your daily streak and your chosen language. This is not a cookie and no third party uses it. If you clear this site’s data in your browser settings, all of it is gone and you play as a new player.
Google account (optional)
If you sign in with Google, Google sends us your name, email, profile picture and Google account identifier. We never get your password. We use this data to keep your history and streak on any device; games you played without an account on this device move to the account. Your nickname starts as your first name and can be changed; your email is never shown to other players.
While you are signed in, a session cookie keeps you logged in. With the session we record the IP address and browser used, for security. The session ends when you sign out or after a few days without use.
Protection against bots and abuse
When you start a game, Cloudflare Turnstile checks, without asking you anything, that a person is playing. To do so, Cloudflare analyzes technical browser data and your IP address. We also use the IP address or the identifier for a few minutes, only in server memory, to block excessive requests.
Ads and third-party cookies
The site shows ads from Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on those visits.
You can opt out of personalized advertising at adssettings.google.com, and learn about other ways to opt out of advertising cookies at aboutads.info. How Google uses data from partner sites: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. Where the law requires it, for example for visitors from Europe, we ask for your consent before using advertising cookies.
Who we share data with
Only the services that make the site work. They may store data outside Brazil, for example in the United States, with the safeguards that data protection law requires for international transfers:
- Cloudflare: hosts the site, the API and the database, and runs the bot check;
- Google: sign-in (if you use it) and ads;
- public authorities: only when required by law or a court order.
Why we use data and on what legal basis
Each use has a legal basis under Brazil’s General Data Protection Law (LGPD, art. 7) and, where it applies, the GDPR (art. 6):
- running the game (games, points, ranking, streak, challenges) and your account: performance of the service you asked for by playing or signing in;
- security, fraud and bot prevention, and usage statistics: legitimate interest;
- ads: legitimate interest to show ads, and consent for personalized ads where the law requires it.
How long we keep data
We keep each piece of data only as long as needed:
- games and scores: as long as the site exists, to keep each day’s ranking and statistics (without an account, they are not linked to your name);
- account name, email and picture: until you delete the account;
- sign-in sessions: until you sign out or the session expires;
- data in your browser: until you clear it.
Deleting your account
While signed in, open the account menu (at the top) and choose “Delete account”. We immediately erase your name, email, picture and sessions and unlink your games from the account. Scores stay in the historical ranking, without a name, as “Removed player”. On this device you go back to playing as a new anonymous player.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under Brazil’s LGPD, the EU or UK GDPR, or US state privacy laws), you may have the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, receive a copy of it, know who we share it with, object to or restrict some uses, and withdraw your consent. To do so, email gamestudiocoven@gmail.com. We reply within 15 days.
If you play without an account, we cannot tell which games are yours, because they are only linked to your browser’s identifier. Clearing this site’s data in your browser breaks that link.
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to your local data protection authority (in Brazil, the ANPD: gov.br/anpd).
Children
TempusGuessr is a general-audience trivia game and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, who should not sign in with a Google account. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has given us data, email gamestudiocoven@gmail.com and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site changes. Important changes will be announced on the site; the date at the top shows the version in force.
